About The Position

The Instrumentation and Control Technician is part of the Mine Maintenance team and reports to the Instrumentation and Control Supervisor. The individual contributes to the automation, programming, maintenance, and optimization of control systems, communication networks, and mining operation equipment. The role also includes active participation in continuous improvement projects, providing technical support to operations, as well as developing and modernizing industrial infrastructure.

Requirements

  • College diploma (DEC) in instrumentation and control, industrial electronics technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a mining or industrial environment
  • Experience in programming and troubleshooting industrial PLCs
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation systems
  • Experience with industrial networks, communications, and telecommunications systems
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and fiber optic systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Deswik
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid explosives permit
  • Completion of mining modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7

  • Experience with SAP considered an asset
  • Bilingualism considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and adjust components of automated industrial systems
  • Program, modify, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) (Allen Bradley / Rockwell)
  • Participate in the configuration and maintenance of operator interfaces (HMI), including FactoryTalk View and SCADA systems
  • Provide technical support for underground PLCs and control systems, as well as associated installations
  • Assist in the implementation and optimization of on-demand ventilation systems (Simsmart)
  • Participate in programming and troubleshooting of hoists and variable speed drives (ABB)
  • Diagnose industrial networks and perform basic configuration of networking equipment (switches, VLANs, IP addressing)
  • Diagnose and maintain underground communication networks
  • Install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic networks
  • Assist in the design, updating, and revision of electrical and instrumentation drawings using AutoCAD and Deswik
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of autonomous systems, teleoperation, and FMS (Fleet Management Systems)
  • Troubleshoot control loops and industrial instruments (4–20 mA, sensors, process instrumentation, control circuits)
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability
  • Use SAP for work management, including creation and follow-up of notifications and parts requests
  • Comply with occupational health and safety standards, procedures, and requirements
  • Perform any other related duties as required
