About The Position

This position is for an Instrumental Music Equipment Technician within the Humanities Department of Music. It is funded through Federal Work-Study (FWS). The role involves managing inventory, organizing storage, maintaining repair supplies, inspecting returned gear, setting up rehearsals, performing basic maintenance on instruments and music stands, assisting guest artists, enforcing security protocols, and reporting repair needs. The average hours per week are 11-15, and the position is available for Summer, Fall, and Spring terms.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory checkouts: Log instruments and equipment in and out for students and faculty.
  • Organize storage rooms: Keep instrument lockers and equipment storage areas clean, organized, and accessible.
  • Manage repair supplies: Maintain inventory of replacement parts and report shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Inspect returned gear: Check instruments and equipment for damage, missing parts, or maintenance needs after use.
  • Set up rehearsals: Arrange chairs, music stands, percussion equipment, and other materials needed for ensemble rehearsals.
  • Perform basic maintenance: Clean instruments and complete minor repairs or replace basic parts as needed.
  • Maintain music stands: Inspect, maintain, and complete minor repairs to music stands.
  • Assist guest artists: Help visiting musicians transport, organize, and set up personal or departmental equipment.
  • Enforce security protocols: Ensure storage rooms, equipment areas, and instrument lockers are properly secured after use.
  • Report repair needs: Document damaged or malfunctioning equipment and submit repair or maintenance requests to the Director of Bands.
