About The Position

DCCM is seeking an Instrument Operator to join their Survey team. In this role, you will assist the Survey Party Chief in performing field work to complete various types of surveys using appropriate surveying procedures, equipment, and technology. Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • 3 years' previous experience in a similar land surveying role.
  • Understanding of traversing, traverse closures, level runs, and GPS data.
  • Know basic sources of measurement errors, how to identify errors in data collection, and how to correct for errors in the field.
  • Must be able and willing to travel.
  • Must be experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, high level of accuracy.
  • Safely and effectively operate data collectors, robotic Total Stations, and GPS receivers.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately read various measuring devices.
  • Ability to use a ferrous metal detector.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in difficult and stressful situations.
  • Ability to accept personal responsibility for actions and errors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced situations while able to give attention to details.
  • Adept at following instructions and competing repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate surveying instruments such as data collectors, robotic Total Stations, and GPS receivers.
  • Maintain equipment ensuring all necessary supplies are in the vehicle for each day’s task.
  • Load and unload surveying equipment in the Survey vehicles daily.
  • Under the supervision of the Party Chief, conduct field work to ascertain the location of natural features and man-made structures on land surfaces using equipment and other surveying instruments to complete different types of surveys.
  • Under the supervision of the Party Chief, cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line of sight using machete.
  • Under the supervision of the Party Chief, dig ground using a pick, shovel, or other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments.
  • Under the supervision of the Party Chief, drive iron rods, hubs, and lathes for survey monuments or construction staking.
  • Perform tasks in such a way as to ensure the safety of all crew members, clients, and the public.
  • Provide quality seamless support to the Party Chief and any other field personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
