About The Position

The Instrument Fitter is responsible for the installation, fabrication, calibration, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation systems and related equipment. This position supports project completion by ensuring all assigned tasks are performed safely, accurately, and efficiently while maintaining company quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend P&IDs.
  • Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
  • Knowledge of tubing fabrication and installation practices.
  • Ability to use and maintain basic hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation systems, gauges, and calibration equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and redline drawings.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards and procedures.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous instrumentation, industrial construction, or mechanical experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required depending on project requirements.
  • Maintain current safety certifications and required safety education.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all ION Field Services safety procedures and policies at all times.
  • Attend and participate in all required safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform and comply with Job Safety Analysis (JSA) procedures for all assigned tasks.
  • Work closely with team members to complete projects safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Maintain a professional and team-oriented attitude throughout all phases of work.
  • Assist in training employees when needed.
  • Read and comprehend Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Plan routes, fabricate, bend, and install tubing tray systems.
  • Fabricate and install tubing, tray systems, and instrument mounting brackets.
  • Bend and install tubing accurately and efficiently.
  • Install instruments and gauges according to customer and manufacturer specifications.
  • Test, calibrate, and document instruments and gauges.
  • Cut, thread, install, purge, and pressure test piping systems.
  • Install header piping for multiple applications.
  • Maintain an understanding of analyzer buildings and related systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for field changes and deviations from original plans, including redline drawings.
  • Participate in plant equipment and instrumentation commissioning activities.
  • Assist with client training, project turnover, and representative walkthroughs.
  • Complete and submit all required project documentation to the appropriate department.
  • Properly maintain and care for company-provided tools and equipment, including calibration equipment, power tools, and job trailers.
  • Maintain working knowledge of all assigned equipment and systems.
