Requirements

  • Associates degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical Technology or Instrumentation Engineering; or satisfactory completion of two years of a four year recognized college Engineering Degree program, and a minimum (3) years' experience working a in a power plant, steel mill, refinery, or chemical plant site. This will include a minimum of 1 year working with the operation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of pneumatic, electronic, digital, PLC, PC, microprocessor and Distributed Control System
  • OR HS Diploma and seven years of experience in a power plant or related industrial environment. This will include a minimum of 4 years working with the operation, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of pneumatic, electronic, digital, PLC, PC, microprocessor and Distributed Control System
  • Strong computer skills, including PC software and experience as a database power user
  • Basic network troubleshooting knowledge
  • Familiarity with operating systems and system integration
  • Experience with DCS or PLC logic and graphic configuration
  • Proficiency with OSI PI ProcessBook and Datalink
  • Ability to analyze complex control systems
  • Strong understanding of 1-, 2-, and 3-element control, as well as complex cascade control
  • Capability to perform system tuning and explain control loop dynamics

Nice To Haves

  • Project management experience
  • Distributed Control System (DCS) experience, including working knowledge of ABB 800xA systems, AC800M hardware platforms, and associated control strategies used in FGD operations
  • Motor control and communication protocols experience, including familiarity with Allen-Bradley MCCs utilizing DeviceNet and integration of field devices within legacy and hybrid communication networks
  • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems and field communications experience, including Siemens and ABB VFDs and systems communicating over Profibus networks
  • PLC-based auxiliary systems knowledge, including basic working knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLCs and the ability to support troubleshooting and system restoration
  • Protective relays and power system integration experience, including Schweitzer Engineering (SEL) relays for medium-voltage (4160V) systems and Eaton/Cutler-Hammer relays for low-voltage (480V) systems, with communication over Modbus TCP
  • Multi-protocol integration experience, including working with industrial communication protocols such as Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet, Profibus, and Modbus TCP, and integrating them into a unified control system architecture
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels, both within and outside the company

Responsibilities

  • Acts as project manager for installation and start-up on new systems. Act as protection leader as needed.
  • Analyzes process control data for use in recommendations to plant personnel to improve efficiency and reduce cost or predict failure.
  • Communicates results, corrective action in a clear and concise manner verbally, in test and formal reports as well as electronically. Gives presentations to all levels of management.
  • Leads, coordinates and implements problem solving and design change activities for the maintenance of plant equipment, control systems; DCS/PLC/PCs, processors and all plant instrumentation while providing work direction and problem solving on a day-to-day basis with represented and non-represented employees, both plant and external, and with contractors and vendors.
  • Provides technical expertise in the maintenance, calibration and repair of instrumentation control equipment.
  • Trains, both formally and informally, represented and non- represented employees and mentors employees at all levels.
