About The Position

Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Carnegie classified R2 institution, is seeking outstanding applicants for the position of Instructor in the Department of Philosophy. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy or related discipline required.
  • ABD candidates who anticipate completion of the doctorate by Fall 2027 will be considered.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence.
  • Ability to integrate knowledge where faith and reason bear witness to the unity of all truth.
  • Desire to live a life of intellectual friendship with colleagues and students in the light of the Catholic intellectual tradition.
  • Commitment to philosophical pluralism and the Catholic intellectual tradition as they animate teaching, philosophical activity, and collegial life.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching introductory courses like Philosophical Inquiry and Ethics.
  • Experience in a Catholic university setting.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate core philosophy courses, including Philosophical Inquiry and/or Ethics.
  • Regularly participate in co-curricular activities and departmental service.
  • Contribute to the department’s goal of helping students of all backgrounds become critical and reflective thinkers.
  • Exemplify the love of wisdom and enkindle in students a love of all that is good, true, and beautiful.
  • Engage in intellectual friendship with colleagues and students within the light of the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Benefits

  • Initial appointment for two years.
  • Eligible for renewable three-year contracts upon review.
