About The Position

Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Carnegie classified R2 institution in the mainstream of American Catholic higher education, seeks outstanding applicants for the position of Instructor in the Department of Philosophy. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy or related discipline is required.
  • ABD candidates who anticipate completion of the doctorate by Fall 2027 will be considered.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence.
  • Desire to live a life of intellectual friendship with colleagues and students in the light of the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Responsibilities

  • 3-3 course load, undergraduate core philosophy teaching.
  • Regular participation in co-curricular activities and departmental service expected.
  • Courses to be taught include Philosophical Inquiry, an introductory course required for all LMU students, and/or Ethics, which meets the university’s core Ethics and Justice requirement, and possibly other core courses.
  • Contribute to the department’s goal of helping students of all backgrounds to become critical and reflective thinkers.

Benefits

  • Initial appointment will be for two years; successful candidates upon review will be eligible for renewable three-year contracts.
