About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for SOCI 2F60 - Foundations for Community Engagement for the Fall/Winter D1 term. This course delivery will be in-person on Tuesdays from 17:00 to 19:00 and runs from September to April 2027. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time, including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group and is subject to course enrollments and budgetary approval.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology, Criminology or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated university training in community-based, experiential education
  • Specialization in community engaged pedagogy
  • Demonstrated successful university teaching involving community-engaged pedagogy
  • Demonstrated research on community engagement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Niagara communities
  • Demonstrated success teaching large university courses involving experiential education
  • Cover letter explaining how each qualification is met
  • Current resume

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures
  • Student consultation
  • Marking and grading
  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
  • Responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course if employed in a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent.
