About The Position

The Instructor is responsible for the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of instruction in assigned courses across classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and online learning environments. The Instructor supports student learning and success while ensuring compliance with North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) standards, Martin Community College (MCC) policies and procedures, and applicable external regulatory bodies and accreditation requirements. Instructional assignments may include day, evening, weekend, and online courses and require effective use of instructional technology, student assessment practices, and learning management systems.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Psychology from a regionally accredited institution; or a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Psychology.
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ability to effectively teach courses in both face-to-face and online learning environments.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle for College-related travel, as required.
  • Ability to teach and support diverse student populations across multiple instructional formats and locations, including the MCC Main Campus, service area high schools, online courses, and other assigned instructional sites.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to assigned instructional locations and adjust work location based on instructional needs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, organize, and deliver course instruction in accordance with approved curriculum standards and departmental guidelines.
  • Prepare syllabi, lesson plans, instructional materials, assessments, and learning activities aligned with student learning outcomes.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to support diverse learning styles, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
  • Maintain course content, gradebooks, and instructional materials within the College’s learning management system (LMS).
  • Evaluate and revise instructional strategies and course materials based on assessment data, student performance, and program needs.
  • Establish and apply fair, consistent, and transparent grading practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using College-approved systems.
  • Provide academic advising, mentoring, and instructional support to students as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Disability Services to implement approved accommodations.
  • Address student concerns professionally and report unresolved issues or classroom incidents to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Submit required reports, including attendance, grades, FTE, and progress reports, in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with students, supervisors, and colleagues using College-approved communication methods.
  • Maintain regular office hours in accordance with departmental expectations.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation activities.
  • Serve on college committees and attend faculty meetings, professional development activities, and institutional events, including graduation.
  • Stay current in assigned academic discipline and instructional best practices.
  • Complete all required institutional training, including FERPA, Title IX, and Campus Safety.
  • Investigating and utilizing OER/AER materials that align with approved curriculum standards and student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborating with academic leadership and library services, as appropriate, to identify high-quality, accessible instructional resources.
  • Ensuring that the use of OER/AER materials maintains academic rigor, instructional quality, and compliance with accreditation and program requirements.
  • Participate in pre-registration, registration, and other enrollment-related activities as needed.
  • Prepare, compile, and distribute reports, correspondence, and other instructional or administrative documentation.
  • Support student readiness for employment, transfer, and/or continuing education through instructional and advising activities.
  • Request, order, and manage instructional supplies and materials in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Provide instructional coverage for other faculty, as needed and appropriate.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and relevance of instructional content and teaching methods; revise lesson design; and participate in the selection of textbooks and instructional materials, including submitting requests for library resources as appropriate.
  • Serve as a point of contact between students and College administration to support communication and issue resolution.
  • Assist with student recruitment, outreach, and retention initiatives.
  • Plan, oversee, and participate in instructional field trips or experiential learning activities, where appropriate.
  • Participate in college committees, meetings, and recruitment activities as part of the required 40-hour work week, whether conducted on or off campus.
  • Maintain an established on-campus schedule consistent with instructional and departmental expectations.
  • Complete required professional development and training as assigned by the Division Chair, accreditation or regulatory bodies, the Chief Academic Officer, and/or Human Resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the College’s mission.
