About The Position

Under limited supervision, the Instructor for Communications provides engaging and high-quality instruction while supporting student success through advising, mentorship, and academic engagement. Courses are taught in a variety of formats based on the needs of the department. Faculty at Pitt Community College contribute to departmental and institutional goals through curriculum development, committee service, professional development, and collaboration with colleagues across the college and NCCCS. This position will primarily teach in the local Pitt County High Schools. Estimated start date August 12, 2026.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in English, Humanities, Communication or related field; OR Master’s degree and 18 graduate level hours in the COMM prefix.
  • Demonstrated discipline expertise, along with appropriate education, experience, and credentials
  • Understanding of community college mission, adult learning theories (andragogy), and strategies to support underprepared or non-traditional students.
  • Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and multimedia classroom tools
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate concepts clearly and manage positive, professional relationships with students, faculty, and administration.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment and teach students from varying socio-economic and language backgrounds.
  • Capacity to multi-task, manage administrative tasks (grading, scheduling), and adapt readily to changing institutional procedures or protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses in Communication in various formats (day, evening, online, hybrid, blended) using appropriate instructional methods.
  • Develops and maintains instructional materials including course syllabi, lesson plans, learning objectives, assignments, assignments and other activities.
  • Evaluates and selects textbooks and instructional resources to support curriculum effectiveness and alignment with industry standards.
  • Assesses student learning through grading, feedback, critiques, and evaluation of coursework and practical assignments.
  • Maintains accurate academic records of required reports such as attendance, grades and end-of-term documentation.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and the public in a timely and professional manner.
  • Attends institutional commencement ceremonies as scheduled.
  • Advises and supports students in academic planning, registration, career pathways and skills development
  • Assist students with registration, withdrawals, and general academic processes.
  • Supports student success through engagement, accessibility, and equitable practices
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives, strategic planning, and student success efforts aligned with the College’s mission and values.
