About The Position

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi invites applications for the position of Instructor of Sociology. This is a regular permanent position beginning in August 2026. The department is seeking a sociologist to cover face-to-face instructional needs in Introductory Sociology (Soc 101), Family (Soc 301), and other 300-400 level courses. The teaching load is 4 courses per semester, with a starting 9-month salary of $45,000. Candidates should have at least 2 years of demonstrated teaching experience and a strong commitment to teaching. An M.A. degree in Sociology or higher is required at the time of application. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach face-to-face class sections on the Oxford campus starting August 24, 2026. Persons with the rank of instructor shall be hired for teaching duties but shall not be tenure track, and their contracts will be renewable at the discretion of the University. The instructor will develop and offer 4 sections of sociology each semester, including developing syllabi, teaching classes, grading assignments and exams, maintaining course records, and participating in the department.
