About The Position

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi invites applications for the position of Instructor of Sociology. This is a regular permanent position beginning in August 2026. The department is seeking a sociologist to cover face-to-face instructional needs in Introductory Sociology (Soc 101), Family (Soc 301), and other 300-400 level courses. The teaching load is 4 courses per semester. The successful candidate will teach face-to-face class sections on the Oxford campus.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years demonstrated teaching experience
  • M.A. degree in Sociology or higher is required at the time of application
  • Strong commitment to teaching

Responsibilities

  • Develop and offer face to face Sociology courses, 4 each semester, in particular Soc 101, Soc 301 and other 300 and 400 level courses as needed.
  • Develop and offer 4 sections of sociology each semester.
  • Develop syllabi, teach classes, grade assignments and exams, maintain course records and participate in department.
  • Performs the function of teaching with renewable contracts. Not eligible for tenure.
