About The Position

The Barefield College of Arts and Sciences and UA Early College are hiring full-time instructors in English. This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer appointments. The role involves teaching a combination of online Early College classes (for high school students) and in-person English classes. The appointment is non-tenure-earning and is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal. The instructor will be expected to teach at least two sections of UA Early College online courses and the remaining courses in person within the Department of English. Responsibilities include facilitating online course content, guiding student discussions, providing timely feedback, maintaining online office hours, submitting grades and rosters by deadlines, and maintaining required records. The position is 80% teaching and 20% service, with service assignments made by the English department. The instructor will actively facilitate course content, guide student discussion, provide frequent and meaningful feedback to online students, maintain regular online office hours, submit course rosters and grades by institutionally required communication methods and deadlines, maintain required records and reports for each course assigned, and have regular contact with other online Early College/English instructors and administrators as needed.

Requirements

  • MA in English or MFA in English
  • Experience in teaching composition

Responsibilities

  • Teach a combination of online Early College classes and in-person English classes.
  • Teach at least two sections of UA Early College (high school students taking college courses online for credit).
  • Teach remaining courses in person in the Department of English.
  • Facilitate college-approved online course content in accordance with best practices for online instruction.
  • Facilitate online discussions.
  • Provide feedback on all written work.
  • Grade according to the College's grading standards.
  • Actively facilitate course content.
  • Guide student discussion.
  • Provide frequent, timely, and meaningful feedback to online students.
  • Maintain regular online office hours.
  • Submit course rosters and grades by institutionally required communication methods and deadlines.
  • Maintain required records and reports for each course assigned.
  • Have regular contact with other online Early College/English instructors and administrators as needed.
