About The Position

This is a full-time, academic year, term contract in Computer Information Technology. The position reports to the Dean of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies. The role involves teaching 30 hours (TLE) per academic year in Computer Information Technology, covering areas such as networking, security, and operating systems, with a specific focus on preparing students for CCNA certification. Courses can be delivered through various methods including traditional, online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced formats. The instructor will also serve as the Computer Information Technology Program Coordinator, manage the advisory committee, maintain programmatic accreditation, and promote the eSports team. The initial assignment may involve multiple teaching locations, with the workstation assignment potentially changing each semester based on demand. The instructor must be able to teach and manage multiple courses in an individualized setting, catering to a diverse range of students from dual enrollment high schoolers to returning adults. Student recruitment from local high schools and the community is a key responsibility to ensure program viability. Flexibility to teach evenings, weekends, and off-campus courses is required, necessitating the use of a personal vehicle. A learning-centered educational philosophy is expected, with a focus on redesigning courses to incorporate research-based learning strategies such as service-learning, learning communities, critical thinking, cooperative learning, and reading across the curriculum. The role includes developing web-enhanced courses, cooperative education opportunities for students, and revising/developing curriculum and instructional materials, ensuring accessibility for all students. The instructor must become certified in and utilize the course management system, collaborate with colleagues on course effectiveness assessment and improvement plans, and participate in professional development and relevant organizational memberships. Responsibilities also include assisting with the identification and mentoring of adjunct instructors, preparing course schedules, participating in student activities, advising students, maintaining office hours, and engaging in college life and committee work, including training and certification as a Master Advisor. Additional duties may involve assisting in grant writing/management, teaching in correctional facilities, assisting with STEM events, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.
Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email, voice mail, text and other electronic means. Normally, responses are expected in no more than 72 hours.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Ability to teach and evaluate student performance.
Ability to maintain required records.
Ability to work with staff and colleagues in department and college committees and related activities.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field and documented knowledge/skill sets gained through work experience and/or certifications.
Teaching experience

Nice To Haves

Master’s Degree with 18 graduate hours in a field closely related to Information Technology or Computer Science.
Experience teaching in an online environment.
Community college experience.
Information Technology Security Certification.
Work experience as an IT system administrator.
Experience with Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Responsibilities

Teach 30 hours (TLE) per academic year in Computer Information Technology, including networking, security, and operating systems, with a focus on CCNA certification preparation.
Serve as the Computer Information Technology Program Coordinator.
Manage and maintain the advisory committee for the program.
Maintain CIT – Networking programmatic accreditation.
Promote and assist with DSCC’s eSports team.
Teach a range of ages from Dual Enrollment high school students to nontraditional, returning adults.
Recruit students from area high schools and from the community to make DSCC’s program viable and competitive.
Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research-based learning strategies including service-learning opportunities, learning communities, critical thinking skills, co-operative learning, and reading across the curriculum.
Develop web-enhanced courses for delivery in technology-enhanced classrooms/labs, online, Zoom, and/or remote location.
Develop cooperative education opportunities for students that provide capstone experiences for the program.
Revise and develop curriculum and select course instructional materials in cooperation with colleagues.
Provide course materials and information in a format that is accessible for all students.
Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes.
Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses, analyze the results, develop and implement improvement plans, and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.
Participate in professional development and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or national organization related to your teaching at DSCC.
Assist with the identification and mentoring of adjunct instructors.
Assist in the preparation of course semester/term schedules based on community needs and data trends.
Participate in student activities such as sponsoring a student club/organization and attending campus events.
Advise students, maintain regular office hours, and participate in college life and committee work of the College.
Be trained and certified as a Master Advisor.
Willingness to acquire software certifications as needed.
Assist in grant writing and/or grant management.
Willingness to teach in correctional facilities (prisons/jails).
Assist with STEM events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
