About The Position

Pediatric Instructors of Clinical Practice are Clinical Faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine that will work in the Children's Hospital Colorado - Colorado Springs Emergency Department. In this role, they will provide medical care to acutely ill and injured pediatric patients. They will perform history taking, physical examinations, define and execute appropriate workup that leads to diagnosis with treatment and disposition plan.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree
Completed an accredited residency in Pediatrics or combined Medicine-Pediatrics
Board Certified or eligible in Pediatrics
Active certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Active Colorado Medical License
Active Colorado State DEA license
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check

Nice To Haves

Two or more years' experience in pediatric acute care
Experience teaching medical students and residents
POCUS trained
Experience with pediatric patient population; pediatric emergency, critical care or urgent care exposure ideal

Responsibilities

Provide medical care to acutely ill and injured pediatric patients.
Perform history taking and physical examinations.
Define and execute appropriate workup leading to diagnosis, treatment, and disposition plan.
Provide coverage for 1,376 clinical hours per year, including Pediatric Emergency care, Pediatric Observation Unit medicine, and Jeopardy shifts.
Maintain active medical staff privileges at all Children’s Hospital of Colorado and Children’s Hospital of Colorado - Colorado Springs Emergency Departments unless excluded by mutual agreement.
Attend at least 75% of monthly joint section and Colorado Springs administrative meetings.
Participate in Children’s Hospital Colorado Main or Colorado Springs or with anesthesiology one time per year to maintain airway skills and other technical seminars.
Provide clinical teaching of Medical Students, Family Practice Residents, and other learners.
Provide clinical supervision and support for Advanced Practice Providers.
Participate in Quality Improvement and development of Clinical Care Guidelines.
Maintain skills required for high quality, patient-centered, safe urgent/emergent care of children.
Complete annual requirements including one high fidelity code simulation, maintenance of PALS and ATLS certifications, and relevant CME.
Attend other technical seminars deemed mandatory by the Section Head or Colorado Springs ED Medical Director.
