Connecticut State Community College (CT State) was launched on July 1, 2023, through the consolidation of Connecticut’s 12 community colleges. All Teaching Faculty members shall: Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources; and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in Biochemistry or Chemistry.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States
Nice To Haves
- Two (2) or more years’ related college-level teaching experience (48+ credits).
- Experience teaching General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, General Biology I, Introduction to Biology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry I or Organic Chemistry II.
- Experience using technology to enhance the learning environment, e.g., Blackboard, online instruction or other modalities/software.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date
- Respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.)
- Perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources
- Teach thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and deliver a range of courses within the assigned discipline.
- Evaluate and assess student learning outcomes
- Provide student support, mentoring, and academic advising
- Develop curriculum and periodically review and update instructional materials
- Assist with program reviews and accreditation-related activities
- Plan and execute program-related events
- Attend workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the field
- Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
- Service on assigned committees and task forces
- Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekends
