About The Position

Victor Valley College is seeking a Full Time Instructor for Chemistry. This is a 10-Month Tenure Track Position with an initial salary placement ranging from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425. The college is a Caring Campus institution committed to improving student retention and success through intentional, welcoming practices. The primary responsibilities include preparation and delivery of course materials for General Chemistry laboratory and lecture sections, and potentially other courses appropriate to experience and education. Successful candidates will have a background in chemistry and documented success in using educational technologies. The assignment may include courses offered in the evenings and on weekends. Instructional assignments include lecture and/or laboratory classes, conducting classes, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, student learning outcomes, assessments, program review, student activities, and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members, including participation in academic discipline/department decision-making processes regarding curriculum, program development, and maintaining professional conduct and ethics. Responsibilities also include assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, and Curriculum Development.

Requirements

  • Master’s in chemistry OR Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR the equivalent.
  • Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms.
  • Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration).
  • Completed Victor Valley College application electronic form.
  • A letter expressing interest in the position.
  • A Resume or CV.
  • A syllabus you have written for a college-level chemistry course.
  • Copies of transcripts showing college degrees and coursework. Be sure to include all undergraduate and graduate degrees and transcripts that show coursework and degree conferred.
  • Degrees must be from an accredited institution.
  • Applicants with foreign transcripts must have transcripts evaluated for U.S. equivalency by an approved agency and submit the evaluation.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in chemistry is preferred.
  • Experience teaching college-level General Chemistry courses.
  • Documented success in the use of educational technologies in the teaching and learning process.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course materials required for teaching laboratory and lecture sections of General Chemistry; may include other courses appropriate to experience and education.
