About The Position

Augsburg University's Education Department is seeking a non-tenure track, visiting instructor for student teaching, beginning August 2026. This role involves instructing and supporting student teachers, coordinating and training supervisors and cooperating teachers, and advancing departmental and institutional vision through equity-focused practices. The position requires staying current with education rules related to student teaching for all licensure programs and ensuring departmental and institutional processes are followed. The coordination of student teaching is equivalent to teaching 4 courses, with three additional courses assigned based on the candidate's licensure and experience.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education
  • Experience with instructional coaching through mentoring student teachers or new E-12 teachers.
  • Holds or has held a professional teaching license.
  • At least three years of experience as a teacher-of-record within a diverse E-12 setting OR Experience as a current or former E-12 administrator with documented experience in teacher evaluation within a diverse E-12 setting.

  • Doctorate degree focused on pedagogy, teaching, or K-12 content-specific instruction.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations in virtual and in-person settings.
  • Prior experience with learning management systems, hybrid instruction, and Google suite.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the Twin Cities area to schools and district offices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Education department faculty, staff, partner schools, and candidates to design and enhance the student teaching experience with a focus on equity and social justice.
  • Communicate with K-12 schools and districts to meet candidate needs and maintain strong relationships.
  • Promote successful completion of student teaching through information sessions, seminars, and individualized support plans.
  • Provide support to student teaching supervisors and cooperating teachers through communication, training, workshops, and regular meetings.
  • Support student teacher supervisors in connecting student teaching to state-required performance assessments and departmental requirements.
  • Maintain records of supervisor and cooperating teacher trainings for state and departmental reporting.
  • Stay current on state licensing requirements for teachers across all programs and provide feedback on related procedures and programming.
  • Participate in Metro and State placement coordinator meetings and MACTE Placement Directors initiatives.
  • Collaborate with placement directors at other institutions and meet with each group throughout the year.
  • Support the Placement Coordinator with verification processes and data entry.
  • Coordinate compensation for cooperating teachers.
  • Collaborate with the Placement Coordinator on cooperation and partnership agreements, communication with partner schools, and identification of cooperating teachers and supervisors.
  • Coordinate with the Education Department to update handbooks, policies, and procedures for student teaching.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Recommend adjuncts for hire and mentor them.
  • Review program components and bring updated syllabi for review.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees.
