About The Position

Provide quality instruction for the benefit of the participants. The days of work and hours will vary with each class but may include evenings and weekends. This is a part-time position working on average less than 20 hours per week. The salary range for this position is $15.76- $21.27 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Position will remain open until filled.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • 1 year experience teaching Cooking Classes required.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at time of hire.
  • Current First Aid and C.P.R. certification or ability to obtain First Aid and C.P.R. certification within (60) days of employment.
  • Proficient knowledge of the specific discipline.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Work with a diverse group of people effectively and diplomatically.
  • Strong customer service skills .
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving participants with patience, good judgment, and with diplomacy.
  • Must demonstrate competent organizational and planning skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Some course work in recreation, education, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Introduce participants to a variety of cooking techniques, ingredients, and cuisines from around the world while promoting kitchen safety, creativity, and confidence in the kitchen.
  • Ensure compliance with all food handling, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Purchase, organize, and manage ingredients and supplies within established budgets.
  • Provide safe and effective class instruction to registered participants
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans featuring a variety of cuisines and cooking styles, including but not limited to Italian, Mexican, Chinese, American, Mediterranean, French, and other international dishes.
  • Participate in required training.
  • Inspect classroom /program environment, equipment, materials and ingredients to ensure safety.
  • Handle emergencies according to established procedures.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as skills assessment of participants, attendance sheets, class evaluations and class description for brochures.
  • Provide make-up sessions as required.
  • Communicate effectively with recreation staff, participants, and parents/guardians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
