About The Position

The College of Western Idaho (CWI) is seeking a dedicated Instructor to deliver high‑quality instruction that prepares students for successful careers in diesel and heavy equipment technology. This role combines classroom lecture, hands‑on lab supervision, student engagement, and curriculum development—all focused on student success, skill mastery, and workforce readiness. Instructors at CWI play a vital role in supporting students across the entire learning lifecycle through inclusive, student‑centered teaching, strong industry connections, and continuous professional growth. Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Five (5) years of recent, full‑time work experience in a related technical field
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to develop curriculum, assessments, and instructional materials
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage and manage students effectively

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Diesel Technology preferred
  • Current or prior CDL license
  • Teaching or training experience in a technical or applied learning environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide lecture instruction Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and supervise evening lab activities from 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
  • Deliver inclusive, student‑centered instruction that meets the needs of CWI’s diverse community college student population
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills to maintain engagement, safety, and productive learning environments
  • Prepare, present, and assess instructional materials aligned with course and program outcomes
  • Develop, revise, and manage course content and assessments using Canvas
  • Demonstrate and teach expertise in: Heavy equipment hydraulics, Electrical systems, Powertrain systems, Diesel emissions and aftertreatment, HVAC systems
  • Continuously evaluate and improve curriculum, delivery methods, and assessment practices
  • Participate in department‑level curriculum and program development initiatives
  • Assist with student advising and support student progress and persistence
  • Participate in committee assignments and institutional activities
  • Contribute to departmental planning, assessment, and program improvement efforts
  • Engage with community and industry partners to support workforce‑aligned instruction
  • Pursue professional development opportunities aligned with instructional excellence and program needs
  • Collaborate with supervisors to align professional expertise and interests with departmental goals
  • Maintain current industry knowledge to support relevant, applied instruction
