Heavy Equipment Instructor
About The Position
The Heavy Equipment Instructor will be responsible for teaching the Heavy Equipment Vehicle Operator (HEVO) program. This short-term program is designed to prepare individuals for employment as professional heavy equipment operators and tractor-trailer drivers. The curriculum includes instruction in general construction site safety, operation of diesel-powered heavy equipment and tractor trailer rigs, identification of common equipment/vehicle components, defensive driving skills, actual driving on rural, urban and interstate highways, cargo handling, tractor trailer backing and maneuvering, and equipment/vehicle inspections and logging. Students are eligible to test for a CDL license upon successful completion of the program.
Requirements
- Experience as a professional heavy equipment operator.
- Experience as a tractor-trailer driver.
- Knowledge of general construction site safety.
- Proficiency in operating diesel-powered heavy equipment.
- Proficiency in operating tractor trailer rigs.
- Ability to identify common equipment/vehicle components.
- Skilled in defensive driving.
- Experience with driving on rural, urban, and interstate highways.
- Knowledge of cargo handling.
- Expertise in tractor trailer backing and maneuvering.
- Understanding of equipment/vehicle inspections and logging.
Responsibilities
- Instruct students in general construction site safety.

- Develop and deliver training on defensive driving skills.
- Oversee and guide students during actual driving on rural, urban and interstate highways.

- Educate students on equipment/vehicle inspections and logging procedures.
- Prepare students to test for a CDL license upon successful completion of the program.
