About The Position

This position is housed in the Department of Pediatrics as a full-time (1.0 FTE) Genetic Counselor position supporting Pediatric Neuromuscular services (0.5 FTE) and inpatient NICU/PICU services (0.5 FTE). The selected candidate will join OHSU’s Pediatric Neuromuscular team and hold a secondary appointment within the Department of Molecular & Medical Genetics (MMG). The Genetic Counselor will provide comprehensive genetic counseling services for medically complex pediatric patients, including genetic risk assessment, test selection and coordination, informed consent, interpretation of genomic results, family counseling, and longitudinal follow-up care. Responsibilities include supporting rapid genomic testing workflows in the NICU/PICU, coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams, assisting with variant interpretation, and providing counseling related to inherited neuromuscular disorders, recurrence risk, and gene-directed therapies. The counselor will participate in both inpatient and outpatient multidisciplinary clinics, partnering closely with pediatric subspecialists, intensivists, neurologists, and medical geneticists to support high-quality, patient-centered care. Services will include in-person and telehealth patient care as appropriate. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Genetic Counselor will contribute to education of medical trainees, genetic counseling students, and healthcare providers as assigned by MMG. Participation in research, quality improvement, program development, and scholarly activity is encouraged.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Human Genetics/Genetic Counseling from an ACGC accredited training program
  • Board Certified or an Active Candidate through the ABGC
