About The Position

Southern Regional Technical College is hiring a Drivers’ Education Instructor to teach classes in accordance with Joshua’s Law and requirements established by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Under general supervision, the instructor coordinates and teaches classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to help students develop the skills needed to obtain a Class C Driver’s License. The role includes assessing student progress, coordinating program resources and curriculum, maintaining a safe learning environment, and documenting student performance. Compensation is $25 per hour; salary is commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. The position is not eligible for benefits. The instructor must become a certified Driver Training Instructor by completing DDS-provided online training and passing the examination covering Joshua’s Law, TADRA, and the Georgia driver’s manual. The position also requires motor vehicle and criminal history checks, meeting applicable driving standards, a physician-certified physical examination, and a negative five-panel drug test. Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
High school diploma or GED.
Possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Become a certified Driver Training Instructor by completing DDS-provided online training and passing the examination on Joshua’s Law, the Teenage and Adult Driver Responsibility Act (TADRA), and the Georgia driver’s manual.
Undergo a motor vehicle records check and meet the driving standards established in the Technical College System of Georgia Driver Qualification Procedure.
Undergo state and national criminal history records checks and meet the employment standards in the TCSG Background Investigations Procedure and applicable DDS requirements.
Undergo a physical examination and receive physician certification of fitness to serve as a Driver Training Instructor.
Undergo and receive a negative result on a five-panel drug test.
Skills in developing lesson outlines and materials, presenting subject matter, using computers and job-related software, and oral and written communication.
Knowledge of the vocational area of assignment.

Responsibilities

Assess students’ driving skills, knowledge, progress, expectations, goals, and related matters, and provide feedback to students and administration.
Collaborate with others to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
Coordinate driver’s education program components, support needs, materials, equipment, teaching strategies, space reservations, and driving-range setup in accordance with grant and program guidelines.
Teach classroom and practical driving topics, including car control, defensive driving, emergencies, adverse conditions, and vehicle safety, in accordance with applicable laws and requirements.
Manage student behavior to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
Participate in training sessions, meetings, and seminars to convey or gather information needed for the role.
Prepare teaching materials, lesson documents, and manual and electronic records, including grades, attendance, and pass/fail reports, to implement lesson plans and document student progress.
Report incidents and provide relevant timing or scheduling information for driver training.
Participate in assessment, planning, budgeting, and professional development activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
