About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) DART 3Y43 – Fall D4 (1st half of term) Theatrical Lighting Studies in lighting operation and design. Format: Lectures, seminar/lab, 6 hours per week; additional production time as required. This course is a D4 course, which runs from September 14 to October 26, 2026. Labs: Monday 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00. Compensation (Please note that this is for 0.25 of a full course): Effective September 1, 2026 - $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally). Effective September 1, 2026 - $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally). Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

• MFA or equivalent creative and professional experience in lighting design for theatre and performance, or a relevant, related discipline.
• Significant professional contributions to lighting design conception, production, and operation for theatre, performance, or a relevant, related discipline.
• Successful, relevant, theoretically-informed post-secondary teaching experience. Evidence of teaching effectiveness will ideally consist of a complete teaching dossier. Previous course evaluations, peer teaching evaluations, teaching letters of recommendation, or equivalent objective, systematically collected evidence will also be considered.
• Expertise in anti-oppressive, decolonizing, anti-racist, anti-supremacist, or related approaches to theatre making, theatre pedagogy, and/or theatrical practices. Evidence of expertise will ideally demonstrate how these principles are integrated into the applicant’s post-secondary teaching. Expertise may include, for example, scholarly presentations or publications, development of professional practices, academic or professional leadership, consulting work, or professional development or training.
• Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system, the BrockDB online portal, the OASIS system for managing student accommodations, or equivalent systems in other institutions.

Responsibilities

• Scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty).
