About The Position

The Instructor, Caterpillar fulfills the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member. Instructional assignment in Caterpillar courses. Essential Functions: Article 7 of the OFA Contract

Requirements

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment electronics, fluid power, mechanics, diesel engine repair, service concepts, refrigeration, drive-trains and associated maintenance and repair principles as they relate to Caterpillar equipment used in the construction and mining industries.
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices.
  • Knowledge in power generation systems as well as electronic drive systems and similar advanced technologies are also desirable.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in a discipline relevant to the heavy equipment industry or technologies associated with the position.
  • Experience working in or with heavy equipment in the service environment.
  • Certified in the core areas or capable of achieving core certification through Caterpillar's certification process.
  • Experience with heavy equipment, electrical, mechanical, fluid power, refrigeration, and diesel engine repair principles - preferably with respect to the Heavy Equipment Industry - 5 years minimum.
  • State issued driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in power generation systems as well as electronic drive systems and similar advanced technologies are also desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional assignment in Caterpillar courses.
  • Teaching and mentoring individuals according to the standards defined by the Caterpillar ThinkBIG program and as administered through Owens State Community college.
  • Maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in the construction and mining industries including but not limited to loaders, graders, and multifunctional tracked vehicles.
  • Demonstrating principles of assembly, dis-assembly and maintenance of various systems that are oftentimes complex and made up of several sub-systems.
  • Organize facts and materials for presentations.
  • Make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Manage several projects at once.
  • Mentor and objectively analyze the student and their experiences both in the classroom and in the lab and/or field.
  • Keep control of the class and direct them.
  • Remain focused on tasks and keep a neat orderly environment.
  • Keep up to date on new technologies and certifications per the requirements of the colleges stakeholders.
  • Obtain CIAP (Caterpillar Instruction Accreditation Program) within two years.
  • Work within a team environment yet be capable of taking control of his/her own classroom situation.
  • Be professional, honest, motivated and desire to promote the college mission and vision.
  • Have the student's best interest in mind when making decisions about the class and the individual.
  • Interaction directly with Caterpillar dealers and Caterpillar corporation for the acquisition of materials and supplies as well as visitations for internships.
