About The Position

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing is seeking a full-time non-tenure Instructor/Assistant Professor. The responsibilities for this role include 95% clinical practice assignment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, which includes: planning and directing the delivery of healthcare to the Pediatric population particularly patients with complex medical conditions. This position provides care and health education for patients and their families. In addition, 5% teaching responsibilities in the College of Nursing will be determined in collaboration with the Department Chair and the Director of Advanced Practice. Academic rank is based upon academic credentials.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Master’s Degree or higher in a nursing specialty from an accredited university required.
  • EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of clinical practice experience at the RN level.
  • LICENSES: Current DEA certification and must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
  • Unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in Tennessee or eligibility to obtain licensure in Tennessee is required.
  • Current certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in primary and/or acute care.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree preferred.
  • Experience in the role of an APRN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the Pediatrics Department according to approved protocol and acceptable standards.
  • Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Medical Director/collaborating Physician.
  • Participates in the design and revision of protocols.
  • Collaborates with Medical Physicians and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients.
  • Make referrals as appropriate.
  • Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
  • Develops strong partnerships with patients, family members, fellow providers/nurses and support staff.
  • Focus on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.
  • Manages the care of children in the Pediatrics division, developing education plans for families, and ordering appropriate consultations and referrals when indicated.
