About The Position

The Instructor Assistant assists in providing adult literacy instruction, adult basic education, and GED preparation instruction to eligible Tribal enrolled members. The incumbent will also provide administrative support for the Adult Education staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Tutoring experience
  • Experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Knowledge of adult learning/teaching concepts/methods
  • Knowledge of fundamental theories, concepts and methods of working with adults with minimal education and work histories and skills
  • Knowledge of educational assessment for adult learners
  • Knowledge of educational community resources available to adults and families
  • Knowledge of all general studies (English, math, science, history, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish positive rapport and motivate students served
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, outside agencies and individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to keep detailed records
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public
  • Sufficient ability to exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing adult literacy instruction, adult basic education, and GED preparation instruction to eligible Tribal enrolled members.
  • Assist teacher in planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the adult learner.
  • Assist with student recruitment, registration, orientation, assessment, and placement.
  • Tutor students in one-on-one and small group setting.
  • Provide administrative support to the Adult Education staff.
  • May be required to provide transportation for students to and from GED testing centers.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
