Instructor, American Sign Language (Part-Time)

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of the General Education Pathway, to develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Will require teaching courses in-person at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in any subject area with preference in related fields such as American Sign Language, Deaf Studies Per Higher Learning Commission Determining Qualified Faculty Assumed Practice B.2.
- A minimum of two years (4,000 hour) of work experience in the field of American Sign Language.
- At least one year of work experience must have occurred within the last five years OR At least two years of teaching American Sign Language course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years
- One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time – per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS3 3.04
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) of 3.3 or higher
- Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification granted by The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH)
- Wisconsin Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (WisRID) in combination with a letter of recommendation
- Email - Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook)
- Telephone - Experience with a voice mail system
- Computer - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google
Nice To Haves
- Educational Interpreter License as granted by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI)
- Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
- Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course-management systems
- Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
- Experience with emerging technologies (e.g.. social networking applications)
Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
