About The Position

The Instructional Technology Specialist serves as the primary architect for the integration of digital tools and emerging technologies across the academic program. Reporting to the Director of Secondary Learning and Innovation, this specialist works cross-functionally with content-area leads to ensure that technology is leveraged as a powerful tool to enhance cognitive lift, critical thinking, and scholar achievement. The Specialist is responsible for piloting modernized instructional methods—including the ethical and effective use of Generative AI—while maintaining rigorous instructional oversight. The goal of this role is to ensure technology serves the pedagogy, ensuring it never inhibits or replaces the deep thinking required for scholar success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Valid Georgia Teaching or Service Certificate (Level 4 or higher)
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of successful classroom teaching with demonstrated impact (Math and/or Literacy and/or Content/Humanities).
  • Experience in instructional coaching and/or school-based leadership.
  • Demonstrated skill with data-driven instruction, progress monitoring, and translating data into adult action.
  • Working knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence, and ability to support standards-aligned planning and rigorous task design.
  • Working knowledge of CCRPI accountability domains and implications for academic strategy (Content Mastery, Progress, Closing the Gaps).
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, and adult learning skills; ability to build trust and influence across stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Expert knowledge of how to integrate technology into core content (ELA, Math, Science) using frameworks like SAMR or TPACK to ensure technology increases cognitive lift.
  • High level of comfort with Generative AI and the ability to articulate the ethical, instructional, and practical implications of AI in a K-12 setting.
  • Experience piloting and implementing emerging tools (e.g., Generative AI, Adaptive Platforms, or LMS) as a primary driver of instruction rather than a supplement.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Advanced literacy credentials (Reading Endorsement, Dyslexia Endorsement, or equivalent structured literacy training aligned to IDA guidance).
  • Experience in charter and/or turnaround environments; experience leading cross-campus initiatives.
  • Expertise in MTSS frameworks and intervention models.
  • Valid Georgia educator leadership certification.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the rollout of long-term technology initiatives, ensuring school-level implementation aligns with the organization’s multi-year strategic roadmaps.
  • Research, vet, and pilot emerging instructional technologies and digital learning platforms, establishing clear rubrics to measure their impact on scholar achievement before scaling.
  • Lead assigned innovation projects from the planning phase through full implementation, ensuring milestones are met across all secondary campuses and resources are managed efficiently.
  • Ensure all specialized programming and digital resources are aligned with the regional vision for academic excellence and the organization's committments.
  • Analyze multi-source student performance data alongside digital platform usage to establish a single source of truth for initiative health, identifying trends and partnering with school leadership to set measurable action steps.
  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g., IT Operations, data teams, and vendors) for the purpose of ensuring organizational objectives are achieved and digital resources are effectively utilized.
  • Support compliance with district, state, and federal academic accountability expectations; ensure day-to-day instructional systems position schools to improve CCRPI outcomes.
  • Provide side-by-side coaching, modeling, and co-teaching to build educator confidence in leveraging digital tools to increase student engagement and rigor.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations to ensure digital tools are used to enhance cognitive thinking; provide feedback and intervention when technology usage reduces scholar lift or inhibits achievement.
  • Develop tools, frameworks, and specific digital look-fors that enable instructional leaders and coaches to independently observe, coach, and evaluate the effective use of technology.
  • Lead the implementation of emerging tools (including AI), focusing on "instructional oversight" to ensure scholars and staff use tools for iteration and feedback while maintaining academic integrity.
  • Analyze usage data and scholar performance metrics from digital platforms to identify trends and opportunities for instructional adjustment.
  • Use scholar performance data and observation trends to provide teachers and leaders with actionable feedback on the effectiveness of digital integration.
  • Lead rapid learning cycles to ensure new digital tools and instructional technologies are implemented effectively, evaluated quickly, and adjusted based on immediate scholar performance data.
  • Participate in academic walk-throughs and calibration cycles with school leaders to evaluate the impact of technology on instructional rigor and scholar engagement.
  • Design and facilitate professional development that moves staff from "functional fluency" (how a tool works) to "pedagogical mastery" (when and why to use it to improve outcomes)
  • Ensure all professional development regarding technology and innovation is aligned with the regional vision for academic excellence and the organization's commitments.
  • Build the capacity of other Academic Specialists (ELA, Math, Nonfiction) to integrate high-leverage technology strategies into their specific content coaching cycles.
  • Develop and lead training on digital citizenship, focusing on the ethical implications of emerging tools and the responsible use of digital identities.
  • Collaborate with content-area specialists to embed high-leverage digital tools and AI-driven literacies directly into Tier 1 curriculum and unit designs.
  • Design assessment and learning tasks where technology is used as a "cognitive accelerator" for brainstorming, complex problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • Oversee the implementation of adaptive learning platforms, ensuring they are used effectively for differentiation and intervention without replacing teacher-led instruction.
  • Partner with MTSS and Special Education teams to ensure all digital tools, adaptive platforms, and Generative AI resources are accessible, culturally responsive, and provide aligned Tier 2 and Tier 3 scaffolds that protect grade-level access for all scholars.
  • Ensure all digital resources and platforms are accessible and culturally responsive, aligning with the organization's commitment to equitable scholar experiences.
