About The Position

The Instructional Technology and Training Specialist provides leadership in campus audiovisual technology solutions, technology training for staff and faculty, and the use of educational technology to support the teaching and learning mission of Illinois College through face-to-face and online courses. This role involves providing primary support for audiovisual technology, designing and implementing campus-wide audiovisual solutions, and managing technology-enhanced classrooms and instructional software. The specialist will also be responsible for training faculty and staff, administering key IT systems, and coordinating support for campus events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • CTS required within 6 months of initial employment.
  • Possess and utilize strong interpersonal skills to serve as an ambassador to the faculty for the IT department.
  • Intercultural competency: ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with faculty and administrators.
  • Demonstrate experience with training professionals on technical topics.
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute projects and plans.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work well with a diverse group of staff, faculty, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary support for troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of audiovisual technology on campus.
  • Design and provide plans to the CIO for campus-wide audiovisual solutions, including technology and furniture.
  • Consult with the Director of Facilities for planning and budgeting when renovation is requested.
  • Serve as the primary campus programmer for new and existing campus audiovisual solutions, working with outside vendors when necessary.
  • Work directly with the CIO to plan, acquire, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of technology-enhanced classrooms, instructional software, online course management software, and lecture capture technology.
  • Create and maintain an inventory of all available classroom technology and training videos.
  • Provide faculty with answers to their questions related to educational technology, using language appropriate to their technical expertise.
  • Remain knowledgeable about trends and technology related to higher education, making recommendations to the CIO and advising faculty.
  • Develop a plan for working with departments about audiovisual technology and training.
  • Administer and serve as the IT team’s expert for systems utilized by faculty, including Echo360, Moodle, YouCanBook.me, and Zoom.
  • Coordinate comprehensive support for after-hours and weekend campus events, ensuring seamless coverage through direct on-site management or by training, scheduling, and supervising student workers.
  • Serve as the Tier 3 Learning Management System (currently Moodle) support lead, including site administration and technical support.
  • Train and provide guidance to IT staff members to assist with Tier 2 Moodle requests.
  • Train and provide guidance to IT student workers to assist with Tier 1 Moodle requests.
  • Provide administrative support for faculty and staff towards development of Moodle courses, including information on capabilities, limitations, and new solutions.
  • Train students, staff, and faculty to effectively use technology products and services, and provide training sessions for any new technology IT provides.
  • Conduct New Hire IT training for new faculty members.
  • Coordinate with IT staff and student workers to coordinate coverage for necessary campus events.
  • Manage classroom scheduling within the Events Management System (EMS) and serve as the primary point of contact for the platform.
  • Coordinate with Campus Event Managers to ensure audiovisual technology is working and ready for use for events.
  • Serve as project manager for selected IT projects.
  • Assist in the development of IT policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the smooth operation of IT services, which may require participation in special projects during major events.
  • Advise on technology standards for the entire campus.
  • Seek professional development opportunities to enhance skills and remain current with evolving technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
