About The Position

The Instructional Technologist / Designer serves as a subject matter expert in the use of software, cloud-based services and applications technology for teaching and learning and in course design and delivery. This position ensures professional development trainings and stand-alone resources needed to design and deliver courses that are accessible, current, and aligned with evidence-based practices that support student-ready, digitally-accessible courses. The Instructional Technologist/Designer collaborates with colleagues to vet, acquire, and sunset teaching and learning technologies. The incumbent collaborates with others across the college to support successful student use of required technologies in their coursework. The incumbent demonstrates a commitment to the strategic priorities of Normandale Community College. This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

Requirements

  • College or university teaching experience.
  • Experience planning, designing, and providing faculty development related to course design and delivery, applying evidence-based approaches to support instructional enhancement.
  • Knowledge of educational psychology, adult learning theories, and evidence-based online teaching practices.
  • Knowledge and application of Web accessibility standards (ADA, Section 508 and WCAG).
  • Experience in using a variety of technology tools (e.g. Office 365, VoiceThread, PackBack, video recording tools) that have evidence to support their use in higher education course delivery.
  • Proficiency with a learning management system, such as D2L Brightspace.
  • Proven demonstration of strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to translate technical information into user-friendly stand-alone teaching/learning resources.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the education needs of a diverse student body.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, education, instructional technology, or related field.
  • Experience in course design using the Quality matters rubric and/or Online Learning Consortium’s articulated good practices.
  • Four or more years of experience in instructional design, pedagogy, or curricular development in postsecondary educational settings.
  • Experience in developing rubrics and assessments for adult learners
  • Expertise in use of Artificial Intelligence in higher education.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively and efficiently.
