About The Position

The Instructional/Teacher Assistant provides instructional and classroom support under the direction of a teacher. The role includes assisting individual students and small groups, preparing learning materials, helping administer and score tests or assignments, and supporting student supervision throughout the school day. The assistant also helps maintain classroom equipment and records, supports substitute teachers, participates in staff development and meetings, and performs assigned duties at special events.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Para Professional Certification, an associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or completion of the formal academic assessment required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Valid Texas education aide certificate.
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
Ability to work well with children.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction to students under the direction of a teacher, working with individual students or small groups.
Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
Assist with administering and scoring objective testing instruments or work assignments.
Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
Help with the inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
Make the teacher aware of individual students’ special needs or problems.
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
