California State University, FullertonFullerton, CA

About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Instructional Student Assistant (Apprentice) Pool. This is a pool of Instructional Student Assistants for the department to draw on as necessary. Appointments from the pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Applicants may be offered employment on very short notice. The role of the apprentice is gradual, with experience and time the apprentice assimilates into an active learning classroom setting at their own pace working side-by-side with a mentor faculty member. The apprentices are an integral part of the flipped classroom. With the addition of the apprentices to the flipped classrooms instructors reported the ability to give students one-on-one and differentiated instruction, even with the larger sections. Due to the active nature of the flipped classroom, the apprentices can seamlessly pull struggling students aside to provide additional support.
