About The Position

Lamar State College Port Arthur is hiring full-time instructional staff to teach culinary arts in classrooms and labs within the Camp and Low Security Federal Prison System. The role coordinates activities and directs training in food preparation for hotels or restaurants. Instruction includes menu planning, using food surpluses and leftovers, reviewing menus and recipes, calculating food, labor, and overhead costs, and pricing menu items. This is a 12-month exempt position reporting to LSCPA’s Inmate Instruction Department. The employee must obtain and maintain security clearance for the prison system.

Requirements

• Associate of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts or a related field.
• Three years of related work experience.
• ServSafe Certification.
• Must be able to clear the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ background check and receive and maintain prison-system security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality instruction.
• Coordinate activities and direct culinary arts training, including instruction in food preparation, menu planning, use of food surpluses and leftovers, recipe analysis, cost calculation, and menu pricing.
• Participate in college tasks, including advising, recruiting, and tutoring.
• Serve on departmental and college committees, provide community service, and participate in continuing education and professional development.
• Contribute to the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum aligned with program, department, and college goals and objectives.
• Attend required instructional meetings.
• Maintain current knowledge, expertise, and safety in teaching subject areas and broader higher education matters and trends.
• Respond to students, faculty, and staff in a timely and professional manner.
• Travel to various campuses, conferences, seminar locations, and the Low Security Federal Prison System.
• Comply with campus policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
