About The Position

As a contract employee, you are bound by the contents of your contract as well as the BMCHS Faculty Handbook which required your signature. The Diocese of Orlando four core values lay the foundation for the work performed by employees: Authenticity, Respect, Courage, and Commitment. As a professional educator in a Catholic school, the teacher will teach and act in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings of the Catholic Church. The teacher will understand and appropriately teach the designated curriculum of the Diocese of Orlando, assess student progress in accordance with the approved procedures of the Diocese of Orlando, and know, teach and act consistently in accordance with the mission, philosophy objectives, and policies and procedures of the Catholic school. The teacher must maintain Florida state teaching certification, communicate regularly with parents/guardians, colleagues, and principal, and participate in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and school-sponsored professional development program, striving for continual professional growth. The teacher will perform teaching duties as assigned by the principal, attend required faculty and staff meetings, and cooperate with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings, activities, and projects. A safe, orderly, and secure learning and working environment must be maintained. The teacher will participate in the semi-annual performance review based upon the implementation of the general responsibilities of a professional educator in a school. Confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters must be maintained, except in cases where the health or safety of the student or others is involved, in which case the appropriate administrator should be notified immediately. Routine discipline problems within the classroom will be handled. Professional standards of attendance, punctuality, grooming, language, preparation, and relationship to students as both an adult example and member of a faith community must be exhibited. Public criticism of administration, faculty, students, or parents must be refrained from. A good understanding of the goals and objectives of the entire school program is expected, and openness to continuous progress using contemporary approaches of instruction, technology, and methodology is required. The use of technology in the teaching-learning process must be ensured. The teacher will implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies in curriculum and instructional areas. Physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required must be compiled, maintained, and presented. The curriculum and instruction budget will be administered, ensuring that programs are cost effective and funds are managed prudently. Budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs will be compiled. Assistance will be provided with recruitment, selection, and training of personnel in the department, and sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal will be made. The designated teacher appraisal system will be assisted with. Two-way communication with the principal, teachers, staff, parents, and community will be provided. Skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community will be demonstrated. Professional research will be monitored and ideas and information disseminated to other professionals. The Diocesan Office of School’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies will be articulated to the community, and its support solicited in realizing the district’s mission. Awareness of school-community needs will be demonstrated, and activities initiated to meet those needs. The use of appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement will be demonstrated.

  • Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability, ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
  • Required Activities: Walking, sitting standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
  • You are required to obtain all necessary certifications related to your teaching duties.
