High School Biology Teacher (2026-2027)
About The Position
Excel Academy is seeking a High School Biology Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role involves delivering effective, high-quality, rigorous college-preparatory instruction to 9th-grade students. The ideal candidate will be an entrepreneurial instructor and a hungry learner who thrives on feedback and possesses a passion for their content area. Teachers at Excel are responsible for fostering student success, collaborating on curriculum, designing assessments, creating a safe learning environment, providing coverage, and contributing positively to the school community. A strong commitment to educational equity and a willingness to problem-solve and grow professionally are essential.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree is required
- Rhode Island certified (Secondary General Science 6-12) or in the process of obtaining certification
- Commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel’s values and educational model
- Commitment to addressing racial and economic inequity in education
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and a willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work
- Openness to change, willingness to problem-solve, and seeking feedback for own professional growth and improvement
Nice To Haves
- A Master’s degree is preferred
- A minimum of two years’ teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting is preferred
- Applicants who share points of intersection with our students, such as speaking Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or a language commonly spoken by our students and families at an advanced level
- Being first generation college graduates
- Having grown up low-income
Responsibilities
- Teach Biology to Founding 9th Grade Students
- Collaborate with department members on curriculum refinement and implementation
- Design and implement rigorous assessments that evaluate student mastery of academic standards
- Create a safe learning environment for all students by implementing Excel’s strategies and best practices with consistency
- Provide coverage as needed during non-instructional time
- Serve as a productive member of the Excel Academy community
- Do whatever it takes to ensure the mission of the school is upheld
Benefits
- Starting Salary: $50 - 90k, commensurate with experience
- 8% raise structure
