About The Position

The Child Development Lab (CDL) within the Sanford School at ASU-Tempe is seeking a highly qualified, flexible, on-call Instructional Specialist, PRN, to join our team. As a PRN employee, this is an as-needed, non-benefits eligible position with no guaranteed minimum hours. The CDL operates Monday through Friday from 7:00am-5:30pm. Potential shifts would include hours like 7:00am-3:00pm, 9:30-5:30pm, or any other variation within our hours of operation. While some absences are planned with advanced notice, many absences are unplanned and require on-call availability. Please note that this position is 100% onsite. Under the direction of the Child Development Manager, this role supports the implementation of developmentally appropriate early childhood education curriculum and activities. In addition, the position plays a key role in maintaining high standards of care by providing classroom support in preschool settings as needed during peak periods, staff absences, and staffing shortages. The role is based in a full-day childcare and preschool environment serving children ages two through five.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and support a developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily routines of young children enrolled in the Child Development Laboratory including, but not limited to: indoor/outdoor play opportunities, group activities, meal, and rest time.
  • Supervise children in assigned activity areas as well as assume supervision of the classroom in the absence of Associate Professional, Assistant Professional, or Intern.
  • Models and implements appropriate interactions for student workers and volunteers.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner by modeling appropriate language, behavior, and presence in accordance with established procedures, practices, and standards of the Teacher Manual for timeliness and readiness to interact with children and complete assigned tasks.
  • Practices interactions with children that are developmentally, culturally and individually appropriate by demonstrating respect for individual and cultural differences in children, families and staff.
  • Practices positive guidance techniques to assist children in developing self-regulation.
  • Maintain positive communication with children, families and staff.
  • Assist in the implementation of age appropriate corrective measures/discipline as needed for management of classroom environment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of a healthy and safe classroom environment (indoors and outdoors).
  • May be required to perform general housekeeping tasks such as laundry, snack preparation, toy washing, general cleaning and organizing environment.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned by Associate Professionals, Assistant Professionals and the Child Development Manager.
