About The Position

Designs and develops instructional material for Web-Enhanced, Blended and Online academic courses that support the Institution’s mission and vision. Demonstrates effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills. Develops courses and provide training and guidance on new teaching methodologies. Able to utilize multimedia technology and authoring tools. Acts as liaison between faculty members and IT support in determining the needs of the course and its appropriate method of delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the area of Instructional Design, Education, Graphic Design, or Computer Science or related field and at least 5 years of experience developing Web-enhanced, Blended, or Online courses, in an educational environment with emphasis on e-learning and multimedia technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of instructional design, distance education, and E-learning.
  • Advanced knowledge of Learning Management Systems and commonly used instructional design models.
  • Knowledge of Web accessibility standards.
  • Instructional Design skills including, being capable of imagining oneself as the learner/audience member, brainstorming innovative instructional strategies, knowing the capabilities of eLearning development tools and software; and having the ability to give or take constructive criticism.
  • Excellent project management skills. Comfortable managing a wide variety of projects across departmental boundaries and able to bring them to completion in a timely manner.
  • Well-organized, dedicated, accurate, thorough, and punctual, with meticulous attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with tight deadlines.
  • Must accept personal responsibility for task fulfilment and job performance; must be a self-motivated professional, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships and to communicate well with senior and mid-level management, faculty members, and co-workers.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, ability to communicate with, motivate, and collaborate with others to meet desired outcomes.
  • Customer service skills including diplomatically, patiently, and successfully handling complaints, problems, questions, conflicts, and suggestions.
  • Excellent oral and written knowledge of English as well as excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to write effectively for an online medium.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Applies the process set in place to design Blended and Online Courses.
  • Works closely with the team of instructional designers.
  • Works closely with the media specialists during the production phase.
  • Works closely with the instructional technologists and assist in building Online and Blended courses on the Learning Management System.
  • Coordinates the communication with faculty members during the development cycle.
  • Acts as consultant to faculty members in curriculum development and the use of instructional materials and multimedia.
  • Acts as trainer, motivator, and expert in ensuring that faculty members have the tools, knowledge, and motivation to expand the use of LMS and online resources.
  • Works with the Digital Learning Manager to facilitate the implementation of E-learning initiatives and solutions at AUB.
  • Assesses learning outcomes and work with faculty members to develop and design Web-Enhanced, Blended and Online courses based on applicable instructional design models.
  • Participates in the quality assurance process during and after the course development cycle.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies that may be used to expand and improve the use of technology in teaching and learning at AUB.
  • Conceptually and intuitively understands how people learn.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.
