Under the supervision of the Learning & Development Coordinator, the Instructional Design Representative supports the development of high-quality, accessible asynchronous learning experiences for ASI CPP staff. This role assists with the design, formatting, and delivery of digital instructional content within the organization’s Learning Management System (LMS). The ID Representative contributes to the creation of microlearning materials, slide decks, interactive modules, and course assets, adhering to design standards aligned with ASI’s Strategic Learning Plan and competencies. This position is ideal for students interested in instructional design, educational technology, or multimedia content development.

Requirements

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office and multimedia content development software required.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to participate as a positive team player.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check).
  • Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is eligible to work and has the legal right to work in the United States.
  • Student employees must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period.
  • Student employees are required to have a minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing with the University.
  • Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire.
  • Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Articulate Rise/Storyline, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), specifically Canvas.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and universal design principles (e.g., WCAG 2.1 standards).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation of asynchronous learning content, including microlearning modules, interactive presentations, and support materials.
  • Format and edit instructional assets using tools such as Articulate Rise/Storyline, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and PowerPoint.
  • Upload, test, and troubleshoot instructional materials in Canvas LMS, ensuring functionality, accessibility, and accurate tagging.
  • Support curriculum mapping by labeling content to relevant competencies and tracking alignment in project files.
  • Apply accessibility and universal design principles (e.g., alternative text, captioning, WCAG 2.1 standards) to ensure inclusive learning experiences.
  • Maintain organized file systems, course folders, and version control documentation.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks for consistency, clarity, and user experience across all digital learning materials.
  • Collaborate with the LMS Assistant and L&D Project Assistant to support content deployment schedules and digital asset coordination.
  • Respond to feedback from the Senior Instructional Designer and other team members by revising and refining course components.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving instructional tools, processes, and learner experience.
  • Attends required training and retreats throughout the year.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
