About The Position

The Instructional Coach, reporting to On’Draya Morris, is responsible for implementing the Teacher Coaching Framework weekly for four to six Math and ELA teachers, with a focus on grades 7 and 8. The core of this role involves intellectual preparation, ensuring that no lesson is taught in a coached classroom until the standard has been thoroughly unpacked, an exemplar has been written, productive struggle has been identified, and potential student errors have been anticipated with corresponding teacher moves planned. The coach manages a weekly cycle that includes observing each teacher for 15-20 minutes, scripting student actions, and conducting a 15-minute feedback session focused on one management and one rigor step. This role also involves rehearsing instructional moves with teachers before they are implemented live and following up within seven days to assess their impact on student work. The coach will protect and facilitate prep time, lead lesson internalization in PLCs, develop SMART scaffolds with removal dates, utilize student work and iReady data for discussions, model and co-teach using gradual release, ensure high-dosage tutoring aligns with classroom priority standards, use a common language for observations, and report trends to the Instructional Leadership Team.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree
Valid certification
At least three years of successful middle-grades Math or ELA teaching experience with evidence of student growth
Working knowledge of Alabama grade-level standards
Demonstrated skill in intellectual prep (unpacking a standard and writing an exemplar before teaching it)
Ability to maintain high expectations and a warm relationship simultaneously

Responsibilities

Implement the Teacher Coaching Framework weekly for 4-6 Math and ELA teachers (weighted to grades 7 and 8).
Conduct intellectual preparation: unpack standards, write exemplars, identify productive struggle, and plan teacher moves for anticipated student errors.
Manage a weekly coaching cycle: observe teachers (15-20 min), script student actions, hold feedback conversations (15 min) focusing on management and rigor.
Rehearse instructional moves with teachers before live implementation.
Follow up within seven days to observe the implementation of instructional moves in student work.
Protect and facilitate prep time, co-facilitating prep blocks.
Lead lesson internalization in PLCs.
Develop SMART scaffolds with removal dates to support grade-level work.
Bring student work and iReady data (baseline, mid-year, end-of-year) to all conversations.
Model and co-teach using gradual release of responsibility.
Ensure high-dosage tutoring is tied to classroom priority standards across a 24-week plan.
Use a shared set of 'look-fors' as the common language for observation.
Report trends (grows, glows, actions) to the Instructional Leadership Team.
Conduct weekly alignment meetings with On’Draya Morris.
Submit observation and feedback records, coaching cycle logs, intellectual prep packets, annotated lessons, scaffold plans, PLC student work analysis, benchmark data summaries, tutoring alignment reports, CAMP site visit alignment notes, and ILT reports.
