About The Position

Jefferson RISE is seeking an Instructional Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. This tuition-free public charter school serves nearly 800 students in grades 6-12 in Harvey, Louisiana, with a mission to ensure every student graduates prepared for their chosen path. The school emphasizes rigorous academics, strong relationships, consistent accountability, and a commitment to individual student success. The student body is diverse, with 87% qualifying as economically disadvantaged and 13% identified as Students with Disabilities. Jefferson RISE has a strong track record of student achievement, including a Top Gains Award and a high graduation rate. The school operates on a self-determined academic calendar and daily schedule, with workdays generally from 7:00 AM to 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday, and extended hours on Mondays for mandatory Professional Development.

The Instructional Coach is a key leadership role responsible for improving student achievement by developing highly effective teachers. Reporting to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or Executive Director, the coach will supervise and develop approximately 6-8 teachers while also teaching students for about 50% of the school day. The role involves using student work, assessment data, classroom observations, and teacher practice to drive continuous improvement through weekly coaching meetings, PLC facilitation, professional development, and instructional planning. Successful candidates will be exceptional educators with strong relationship-building skills, the ability to provide candid feedback, a commitment to accountability, and evidence-based decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching experience.
• Demonstrated record of improving student achievement and student outcomes.
• Strong instructional planning, assessment, and data-analysis skills.
• Ability to coach, influence, and develop adult learners.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• Experience facilitating professional development and PLCs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coach, and evaluate approximately 6-8 teachers.
• Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching meetings with direct reports.
• Observe classrooms regularly and provide actionable feedback aligned to the school's instructional rubric and NIET evaluation framework.
• Complete formal observations and evaluations in accordance with school timelines.
• Develop individualized growth plans for teachers.
• Support teachers in implementing feedback and measuring impact.
• Serve as a model educator and demonstrate effective instructional practices.
• Support retention and development of high-performing teachers.
• Plan and facilitate weekly PLC meetings.
• Lead analysis of student work, assessment results, and instructional practices.
• Develop action plans to address student learning gaps.
• Design and facilitate professional development throughout the school year.
• Collaborate with other members of the Instructional Leadership Team to plan and deliver schoolwide professional learning.
• Lead summer professional development planning and facilitation.
• Ensure high-quality implementation of the school's Tier 1 curriculum.
• Support teachers in lesson internalization, lesson planning, and assessment design.
• Analyze student achievement data and instructional trends.
• Support intervention planning for students who are not yet meeting grade-level expectations.
• Monitor curriculum implementation and instructional quality across classrooms.
• Stay current on instructional research and best practices in literacy and instruction.
• Teach courses for approximately 50% of the instructional day (2 HS blocks or equivalent).
• Maintain exemplary classroom results and instructional practices.
• Use classroom experience to model effective instruction and maintain credibility as an instructional leader.
• Demonstrate strong student achievement and high-quality student work outcomes.
• Participate in weekly Instructional Leadership Team meetings and Leadership Development.
• Support hiring efforts through candidate screening, interviews, demonstration lessons, and hiring recommendations.
• Assist with onboarding and development of new teachers.
• Communicate effectively with families regarding student achievement and instructional programs when needed.
