About The Position

Bright Star Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Instructional Assistant to support classroom teachers in delivering high-quality education to students. This role involves working one-on-one with students, facilitating small group instruction, assisting in lesson plan development and implementation, and supporting student supervision. The Instructional Assistant plays a vital part in ensuring students receive individualized attention for academic success and contributes to a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment. Bright Star Schools is a non-profit organization with nine public charters in urban Los Angeles, committed to providing holistic, inclusive support for all students to achieve academic excellence and grow their unique talents.

Requirements

  • At least 48 college semester units (required)
  • Must be organized, creative, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented and flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence.
  • Must possess good communication skills to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form, including accurate grammar and business correspondence knowledge.

  • Frequent computer use, including use of keyboard and mouse.
  • Speaking and hearing are essential to the communication needs of the position; constant hearing and speaking in person and on the phone, via remote video teleconferencing platforms.
  • Must be able to be physically present at the worksite and occasionally travel for meetings or conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Korean (desired)

Responsibilities

  • Provides focused lessons to individuals or small groups of students identified through the MTSS process.
  • Tutors individuals and small groups of students in various subject areas.
  • Utilizes data to plan instruction and prepare for facilitating lessons with students.
  • Tracks data and goals, and communicates them to students and supervisors.
  • Communicates student growth or areas of need to the teacher, supervisor, and MTSS team, in writing and verbally.
  • Assists in maintaining student records and files.
  • Supports with 1:1 or small group testing administration throughout the school year.
  • Operates equipment such as copy machines, computers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Attends and participates in professional development.
  • Works closely with the teacher and other instructional staff to address student needs and contribute to ongoing educational improvements.
  • Supports communication with parents by providing updates on student progress or challenges, when needed.
  • Provides occasional teacher coverage.
  • Supervises students in all indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Supervises students during breakfast, lunch, and snack time.
  • Executes the Bright Star culture plan and training to support a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for students.
  • Encourages children to interact positively with other children and people around them.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with the teacher and classroom team to ensure the individual needs of all children are met.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
