About The Position

The Instructional Assistant provides support to the instructional program in assigned classrooms under the supervision of a teacher or administrator. The role works with individual students and small groups and provides clerical support to teachers and staff. The position reports to the Principal.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher or administrator to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
• Administer classroom assignments, tests, assessments, homework assignments, and make-up work to support the instructional process.
• Assist individual students and small groups with lesson assignments, including reading activities, pre-teaching, lesson reinforcement, spelling practice, activities, and computer learning programs.
• Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of an assigned teacher or administrator.
• Maintain classroom equipment, work areas, and manual and electronic files and records.
• Monitor students in settings such as classrooms, playgrounds, field trips, libraries, lunchrooms, and bus loading and unloading areas to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Report observations and incidents relating to students to appropriate instructional or administrative personnel.
• Support classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching.
• Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire or convey information related to job functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
