The African American Studies Program and the Department of History at the University of Mississippi welcome applications for a jointly appointed Instructional Assistant Professor of African American History to begin in Fall 2026. This is a non-tenure track appointment with a 4-4 teaching load split between African American Studies and History. Initially offering 2 online courses in African American Studies and 2 in-person courses in History each term, the expectation is that this position will evolve into a solely African American Studies appointment and the teaching obligation will shift to 4 online courses in African American Studies. In addition to teaching courses, this appointment will also develop and lead Study Away and/or Study Abroad initiatives focused on Black history and culture in the U.S. South or the broader Atlantic world. Review of applications will begin immediately. Interested parties should submit a cover letter, C.V., teaching statement, and 3 letters of recommendation electronically through the online job portal. Ph.D. required prior to appointment. This position will be open until filled or an adequate applicant pool is reached. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
