About The Position

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Instructional Assistant: Music assists with instruction and reinforcement of musical concepts and instrumentation for students in choral performance and instrumental music. The position also performs clerical and other supportive tasks for instructional personnel and related work as necessary. The assistant provides instruction and reinforcement to individual students and groups.

This is an in-house vacancy available only to current employees of the Irvine Unified School District. Applicants must have completed their six-month probationary period in their current position before applying. The district serves more than 36,000 PK–12 students across its early childhood learning center, elementary, K–8, middle, high, and alternative high schools.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school, supplemented by private or college-level training in music theory, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year of experience in a music environment.
• Proof of passage of the CBEST, an AA degree or higher from an accredited U.S. institution, successful passage of the District’s Proficiency Test, or qualifying ACT/SAT scores (ACT: 23 Math and 22 English; SAT: 550 Math and 500 English).
• Completion of at least one music appreciation, instrumental music, or choral course at the high school or college level.
• Competence in vocal or instrumental music sufficient to provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
• Must be a current district employee and have passed the six-month probationary period in the current position before applying.

• Two years of experience working with students in a variety of special subject areas of study.
