About The Position
Instructional Assistant IIIs support our severe/emotionally disturbed students. We are looking for candidates with any combination of experience and training which provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties. Severe/Emotionally Disturbed - working with students who have a Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs. Students designated as an emotionally disturbed (ED) class or an autism class or assigned to a Behaviorist to assist individual students. Experience working with groups of children; experience working with impaired children or adults highly desirable; coursework in child development highly desirable. In some programs, possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire or before driving any equipment/vehicle requiring this license.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam (testing date must be April 2005 to current) OR Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
- Passing the IA Proficiency Test or having the CBEST is required, regardless of educational background.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with impaired children or adults highly desirable.
- Coursework in child development highly desirable.
- Official transcripts demonstrating the completion of two years of college (48 semester/60 quarter units) OR Proof of an A.A. degree (or higher) for Title I Sites.
- If degree/transcripts are from a foreign college or university, coursework must be evaluated for its equivalency to a degree/transcripts received from an accredited United States college or university.
Responsibilities
- Support severe/emotionally disturbed students.
- Work with students who have a Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs.
- Assist students in an emotionally disturbed (ED) class or an autism class.
- Assist individual students assigned to a Behaviorist.
- Run small groups.
- Assist students in large groups in both Special Day Class settings or General Education.
- Support the teacher's needs.
