About The Position

Instructional Assistant IIIs support our severe/emotionally disturbed students. We are looking for candidates with any combination of experience and training which provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties. Severe/Emotionally Disturbed - working with students who have a Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs. Students designated as an emotionally disturbed (ED) class or an autism class or assigned to a Behaviorist to assist individual students. Experience working with groups of children; experience working with impaired children or adults highly desirable; coursework in child development highly desirable. In some programs, possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire or before driving any equipment/vehicle requiring this license.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam - testing date must be April 2005 to current.
  • Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
  • Passing the IA Proficiency Test or having the CBEST is required, regardless of educational background.
  • Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
  • OFFICIAL transcripts demonstrating the completion of two years of college (48 semester/60 quarter units)
  • Proof of an A.A. degree (or higher)
  • If your degree/transcripts are from a foreign college or university, YOU MUST have coursework evaluated for its equivalency to a degree/transcripts received from an accredited United States college or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with impaired children or adults highly desirable
  • Coursework in child development highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Running small groups
  • Assisting students in large groups in both Special Day Class settings or General Education
  • Supporting the teacher's needs
  • Working with students served in Resource, Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs
  • Supporting our severe/emotionally disturbed students
  • Working with students who have a Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs
  • Assisting individual students in an emotionally disturbed (ED) class or an autism class or assigned to a Behaviorist
