About The Position

The Instructional Assistant II (IA II) position involves working with students in mild/moderate programs, including Resource, Learning Handicap, or Communicatively Handicap programs. Typical duties include running small groups, assisting students in large groups in Special Day Class or General Education settings, and supporting teacher needs. Candidates should possess a combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties. In some programs, a valid California Class C Driver License may be required within 30 days of hire.

Requirements

  • Instructional Assistant II's mild/moderate - working with students served in Resource, Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs.
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties.
  • Possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire or before driving any equipment/vehicle requiring this license (in some programs).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam (April 2005 to current) OR Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) for non-Title I sites.
  • Passing score from SJUSD's Proficiency Exam (April 2005 to current) OR Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) OR OFFICIAL transcripts demonstrating the completion of two years of college (48 semester/60 quarter units) OR Proof of an A.A. degree (or higher) for Title I sites.
  • If degree/transcripts are from a foreign college or university, coursework must be evaluated for its equivalency to a degree/transcripts from an accredited U.S. college or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children.
  • Experience working with impaired children or adults highly desirable.
  • Coursework in child development highly desirable.

Responsibilities
