About The Position

The Instructional Assistant II (IA II) position involves working with students served in Resource, Learning Handicap, or Communicatively Handicap programs. Typical duties include running small groups, assisting students in large groups in both Special Day Class settings or General Education, and supporting the teacher's needs. This role requires candidates with a combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties. In some programs, possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain, a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire is necessary.

Requirements

Previous experience working with groups of children.
Possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire or before driving any equipment/vehicle requiring this license.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam (testing date must be April 2005 to current) OR Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
Official transcripts demonstrating the completion of two years of college (48 semester/60 quarter units).
Proof of an A.A. degree (or higher).
If degree/transcripts are from a foreign college or university, coursework must be evaluated for its equivalency to a degree/transcripts received from an accredited United States college or university.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with impaired children or adults highly desirable.
Coursework in child development highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Running small groups of students.
Assisting students in large groups in both Special Day Class settings or General Education.
Supporting the teacher's needs.
Working with students served in Resource, Learning Handicap, or Communicatively Handicap programs.
Working with students who have a Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs.
Working with students designated as an emotionally disturbed (ED) class or an autism class or assigned to a Behaviorist to assist individual students.
