About The Position

Under supervision, observes and monitors students, facilities, and parking area of assigned school; and performs routine clerical duties in support of school operations. This is the entry-level class in the Instructional Assistant series, distinguished from higher levels by its focus on monitoring and routine support rather than more complex classroom assistance or specialized support for students with disabilities. The role involves ensuring student safety and adherence to school rules during non-instructional times like lunch and recess.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid CPR and First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and monitor students, facilities, and parking areas of assigned school.
  • Perform routine clerical duties in support of school operations.
  • Assist teachers in the classroom by circulating and working with students requiring additional assistance.
  • Provide supportive assistance to teachers, including copying, typing, filing, and compiling materials for lesson plans.
  • Monitor the grounds and facilities of the assigned school campus, including lunch areas, restrooms, parking areas, and meeting the school bus.
  • Enforce school and District rules and regulations, and recommend disciplinary actions.
  • Assist in set-up and serve during morning nutrition.
  • Supervise or assist in the supervision of student eating areas, enforcing procedures related to eating areas, including cleaning lunch tables and trash disposal.
  • Supervise playground activities of students during lunch and recess, preventing rough and dangerous play and ensuring students stay in designated areas.
  • Use positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques to assist students in developing appropriate behavior and an appreciation of human diversity.
  • Promote and encourage high standards for student behavior and a clean campus environment.
  • Ensure school regulations, rules, and policies regarding student behavior and safety are followed, and report violations or illegal actions to administrators.
  • Ensure no unauthorized persons are on school grounds during lunch and recess and that students do not leave the grounds without permission, reporting unauthorized persons to administrators.
  • Assist in emergencies, using good judgment regarding appropriate action for injured or ill students, administering minor first aid, and summoning further aid as necessary.
  • Report accidents and unsafe conditions.
  • Perform a variety of routine clerical duties, including copying, laminating, binding materials, and preparing materials for distribution.
  • May supervise students in a classroom or during various activities.
  • Ensure a safe and clean learning environment for students.
  • Prepare displays.
  • Attend trainings and meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information and receiving updated current information on best practices.
  • Perform miscellaneous clerical functions as needed.
  • Utilize basic computer skills for emails, training, and student assistance.
  • May interpret/translate communications to parents/students if necessary.
